If there are two things that go well together, it’s Marvel and LEGO. It’s a mystery why those little building blocks are so much fun. You don’t even need to play with them. How many of us just build them and stick them on a shelf? But specifically, with intention, so it hints at a greater world with all those whimsical characters flying around from the point we’ve placed them. Obviously, the Venus Fry Cook loves Marvel LEGO. (Star Wars, too, but we’ll save that for another list). With that, here are the 10 best Marvel LEGO sets of all time ranked by Venus Fry Cook.

10. FANTASTIC FOUR VS. GALACTUS CONSTRUCTION FIGURE #76316

LEGO minifigure Fantastic Four fighting Galactus
Image: LEGO. From Fantastic Four vs. Galactus Construction Figure

Minifigures:

Reed Richards

Sue Storm

Ben Grimm

Johnny Storm

The first entry on the list is also the most recent. It’s rare to get an entire team in one set (just ask the Guardians of the Galaxy). But with the Fantastic Four vs. Galactus LEGO set, we get all four members of Marvel’s first family — and the main villain! It happens, but not often. And when it does, there’s a good chance of landing on the list of the Venus Fry Cook’s favorites.

Let’s talk about the orange rock elephant in the room. The Thing. Should he be a big fig or a minifig? In the movies, he’s clearly around the same height as the other members of the Fantastic 4. But looking at them all as minifigs, something about it just doesn’t seem right. It’s a tough call, and we won’t fault LEGO too much for going with a minifig here. Our only other complaint is that we don’t get a human torch version of Johnny Storm. We’ve got a bit of fire — but when we really picture this team in action, Johnny is post “flame on.” The build for a stretchy Reed Richards is cool, and there’s not much more to do with Sue Storm. But purely because we get the whole team and the big bad in this set, the Venus Fry Cook is a fan.

9. AVENGERS: ENDGAME FINAL BATTLE #76192

LEGO Avengers ready to square off against Thanos.
Image: LEGO. From Avengers: Endgame Final Battle

Minifigures:

Captain America - Dark Blue Suit, Reddish Brown Hands, Hair, Dark Brown Eyebrows, Chin Strap

Iron Man - Mark 85 Armor, Hair

Thor - Long Dark Tan Hair

Black Panther - Dark Purple and Lavender Highlights

The Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) - Plain Legs, Reddish Brown Hair

Ant-Man (Scott Lang) Statuette / Trophy - Upgraded Suit

Chitauri - Dark Bluish Gray

Thanos - Large Figure, Dark Bluish Gray Outfit with Gold Armor, Printed Legs, Smile

The build itself is average. But of all the Avengers compound sets that have come out, this one is the Venus Fry Cook’s favorite, because of the solid minifigure lineup. It’s got the Avengers’ big 3 in their Endgame forms, Cap, Iron Man, and Thor, as well as MCU heavy hitters Black Panther and Scarlet Witch (who hadn’t actually been called Scarlet Witch at this point, but we’ll let that go). For kicks, we get a shrunken Ant-Man, and to top it all off, the excellent Thanos bigfig.

But do you really want to know the MVP feature of this set? The van. The quantum van! This is the van that Ant-Man used to go into the quantum realm at the moment of Thanos’ depopulating snap — and the same van that Ant-Man popped out of five years later to kick off the heroic events of Avengers: Endgame. For the record, this van was never anywhere near the Avengers compound! But we don’t care. Honestly, if this set were just the quantum van and the minifigure lineup, it would still probably be on the Venus Fry Cook’s top 10 list.

8. ROYAL TALON FIGHTER ATTACK #76100

Black Panther with his Royal Talon Fighter, enemies, and ally.
Image: LEGO. From Royal Talon Fighter Attack

Minifigures:

Black Panther - Reddish Brown Eyes

Nakia - Red Top

Ulysses Klaue

Erik Killmonger

If there are two things the Venus Fry Cook loves when it comes to LEGO, it’s buildings — and ships. And the Royal Talon Fighter is a killer ship. It’s unique, looks exactly like it does in the movie, and also comes with a solid minifigure lineup for a set of this size. We, of course, get the titular Black Panther, but also both elite bad guys in Ulysses Klaue and Erik Killmonger (we also get Nakia, but meh).

Seriously though. Killmonger. This is Killmonger before he defeats T’Challa and takes on the mantle of Black Panther. This is when he has that incomparable mask he stole from the museum. LEGO actually made this freaking mask for this set! And it’s amazing. It’s perfect. It looks so good, you never need to take it off. The Killmonger minifigure from other sets, where he has the Black Panther suit, just looks like another Black Panther with gold instead of purple. But this is Killmonger at his most raw and frightening state. He was just feeling it, and so are we. So, for the ship, a requisite Black Panther minifig, and the mask, the Venus Fry Cook had to put this in the top 10.

7. IRON MAN HALL OF ARMOR #76125

Iron Man's hall of Iron Man armor
Image: LEGO. From Iron Man Hall of Armor

Minifigures:

Iron Man - Mark 50 Armor, Small Helmet Visor

Iron Man - Mark 1 Armor, Trans-Clear Head

Iron Man - Mark 5 Armor, Trans-Clear Head

Iron Man - Mark 41 Armor, Trans-Clear Head

Outrider - Extended Arms, Torso with Long Dark Bluish Gray Tips at Neck x2

There have been more LEGO set iterations of Iron Man’s hall of armor (including some notable minifigure additions like Whiplash or Iron Patriot), but for the Venus Fry Cook’s money, the first one is still the best. It’s the best precisely because it doesn’t have those other minifigures. Tony Stark’s lab and his armor room have always been his place to escape. His man cave. His fortress of soli– forget that, wrong franchise. But this pure Iron Man lineup in a solid hall of armor is the best of the bunch.

Now let’s talk about the armor. The Mark 1 and the Mark 5. Come on. That’s awesome! The Mark 1 is the first suit Tony Stark made in a cave with a bunch of scraps. And Mark 5 is that totally unique, briefcase suit from Iron Man 2 that Tony puts on during the racetrack sequence. No other Hall of Armor set has these two elite minifigures. Throw in the slick Mark 41 and the Iron Man hall of armor is pretty stocked. Some die-hard fans will buy multiples of these sets and make even bigger armories with more suits. It’s a surprisingly versatile set that, even when the Venus Fry Cook has to box up some sets to make room for the ever-expanding collection, this one always stays on the shelf.

6. THE AVENGERS QUINJET CITY CHASE #76032

LEGO recreation of Avengers: Age of Ultron scene.
Image: LEGO. From The Avengers Quinjet City Chase

Minifigures:

Iron Man - Mark 43 Armor

Captain America - Dark Blue Suit, Reddish Brown Hands, Mask

Black Widow - Black Jumpsuit, Dark Orange Short Hair, Printed Legs, Dark Azure Trim

Vision - Sand Green, Dark Azure Spot on Forehead

Ultimate Ultron

The number of sets with a quinjet is almost in the double figures. It’s a classic Marvel staple that makes a lot of appearances throughout the franchise, both in Marvel comics and the MCU. And, while the 76126: Avengers Ultimate Quinjet (2019) and 76248: The Avengers Quinjet (2023) are both solid contenders, the Venus Fry Cook’s favorite is still the Avengers Quinjet City Chase in 2015, based on Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Let’s talk minifigs. First, we get a Vision minifig in days when it was new and rare, and completely awesome. Better Vision minifigs have come in later sets — but any Vision minifig is still awesome in the eyes of the VFC. This set was a great chance to grab the Ultimate Ultron minifig, and rounding that out with Black Widow, Iron Man, and Captain America (when his mask was still printed, unfortunately) before they seemed to appear in every single freaking Marvel LEGO set, was a great minifigure roster. The ship itself is also still the VFC’s favorite. We don’t know what it is about other LEGO quinjets. They just seem too clunky, too much, too overproduced. The shape, lines, and patterns of this quinjet were so good right out of the gate. And it has the feature where Black Widow can pop out of the bottom just like the movie. We don’t always love sets that try to mimic movie beats so directly, but with the van, Vision cradle, and best LEGO quinjet ever, this set really nailed it.

5. THANOS: ULTIMATE BATTLE #76107 / THOR'S WEAPON QUEST #76102

Images: LEGO. From Thanos: Ultimate Battle and Thor's Weapon Quest

Minifigures:

76107

Iron Man - Mark 50 Armor, Small Helmet Visor, Wings without Stickers

Star-Lord (Infinity War)

Gamora, Long Reddish Brown Coat

Thanos - Large Figure, Dark Blue Outfit, Medium Lavender Arms, Pearl Gold Helmet

76102

Thor - Infinity War

Rocket Raccoon - Dark Blue and Reddish Brown Outfit, Dark Bluish Gray Head

Groot, Teen Groot (Infinity War)

Alright, we’re kinda cheating with this one. But look, this was just too good. Let’s take a step back. When Avengers: Infinity War came out, LEGO released six sets. And each set came with one of the Infinity Stones. Now that’s strong. Just like Thanos in the movie collecting the stones, LEGO fans had to buy all six sets to complete the Infinity Gauntlet.

So why are these two listed as one? Because they are one! They’re two pieces of the same ship, the Guardians of the Galaxy ship, the Benatar. In the movie, Rocket and Groot take Thor on his quest to make a new weapon in an escape pod while Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians stay with the main ship. These two sets are the escape pod and the main Benatar — which is an awesome ship in its own right. Building these two sets and then putting them together was a thrill. The Venus Fry Cook doesn’t like advertising, but this was brilliant marketing. Together, it’s a top 5 set in the VFC’s collection.

4. X-MEN: THE X-MANSION #76294

The LEGO X-Men team fighting a sentinel in front of the X-Mansion.
Image: LEGO. From X-Men: The X-Mansion

Minifigures:

Professor X (Charles Francis Xavier) - Dark Blue Suit

Wolverine - Hair, Blue Hands

Cyclops - Blue Outfit, Printed Legs

Jean Grey

Storm - White Suit, Long Hair

Rogue

Gambit

Bishop

Iceman - Medium Blue Eyes and Mouth

Magneto - Red Outfit, Flexible Rubber Cape

This is all about the minifigures. The X-mansion is cool, no doubt, but compared to the other Marvel buildings, it’s a bit meh. But let’s get real. The Venus Fry Cook would have bought this set for the Gambit minifigure alone.

X-Men sets and X-Men minifigs had been scarce over the years with LEGO. We’d had a few Wolverines. Magnetos. Storms. And the Blackbird set released just before this finally gave a solid Cyclops and a Rogue. But this set had the first Jean Grey (yes, we know there was a Phoenix), the first Bishop, the first Iceman, and the first Professor X in his sweet yellow chair. Now — we have no idea why they went with Iceman here. The minifig is a bit boring. And this set seems to be based on the X-Men animated series and the X-Men '97 reboot, wherein Iceman barely makes an appearance. Having someone like Jubilee or Nightcrawler instead would have been inspired. Minifigures aside, the building is a bit small. The danger room is cool, but it’s tough to really get in there. The modular design is nice, but there’s just nothing really exciting going on. But it’s the X-Men, baby. A whole team in one set. And for that, this is one of the best Marvel sets LEGO has ever released.

3. SANCTUM SANCTORUM #76218

LEGO minifigures from the Doctor Strange movies.
Image: LEGO. From Sanctum Sanctorum

Minifigures:

Doctor Strange - Brooch, Flexible Rubber Cape

Wong - Dark Red Robe, Dark Blue Legs

Iron Man - Mark 50 Armor, Large Helmet Visor

Spider-Man - Printed Dark Blue Arms and Red Feet

Karl Mordo - Sand Green Suit

Dead Strange

Sinister Strange

The Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) - Plain Legs, Medium Nougat Hair with Tiara

Ebony Maw - Light Bluish Gray Head

This set is a bit sprawling with its minifigures, but it’s still a great minifig roster and an even better building. The outside of this building is stunning, and a major upgrade from the old Sanctum. For those who like connecting buildings to make a LEGO city, this Sanctum Sanctorum makes a great corner. The Venus Fry Cook doesn’t like to do that because the buildings are wall-to-wall. What about alleys and roads? But that’s neither here nor there.

The feature window of the Sanctum Sanctorum draws the eye in a flawless set. Inside, the set is a delight. The stairs, the study, and the changing portal door. Great care was taken with this design, and it pays off. And one of the more exciting features (that Marvel LEGO has failed to match since) is the modular walls. They bring a level of customization to the Sanctum Santorum that few other sets have. The aforementioned minifigures represent multiple films, most notably Avengers: Infinity War and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Personally, the VFC could have done without another Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Ebony Maw here and replaced them with more Strange-centric characters. How about Kaecilius, the Ancient One, or anyone from the multiversal Illuminati — even if they never appeared at the Sanctum. But that’s a minor objection. Overall, this set is a welcome master-stroke. There’s nothing to do but say, thank you, LEGO.

2. AVENGERS TOWER #76269

The Avengers Tower in LEGO form.

Minifigures:

Iron Man - Mark 7 Armor, Large Helmet Visor

Iron Man - Mark 6 Armor, Large Helmet Visor, Battle Damage

SHIELD Agent - Tony Stark, Tactical Vest, Black Helmet and Goggles

Tony Stark - Black Shirt with Gold Helmet, Pin Holder on Back

Thor - Spongy Cape with Single Hole, Black Legs, Bushy Hair

Captain America - Dark Blue Suit, Dark Red Hands, Helmet

Captain America - Dark Blue Suit, Dark Red Hands, Hair

Hulk - Giant, Dark Bluish Gray Pants, Smile

Black Widow - Black Jumpsuit, Dark Orange Short Hair, Printed Legs, Printed Arms

Hawkeye - Black and Dark Red Suit, Dark Tan Hair, Quiver, Silver Zipper

Vision - Dark Turquoise

The Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) - Plain Legs, Medium Nougat Hair, Dark Red Cloth Skirt

Falcon - Dark Bluish Gray and Black Suit, Printed Legs

War Machine - Pearl Dark Gray and Silver Armor with Backpack

Ant-Man (Scott Lang) Statuette / Trophy - Upgraded Suit

The Wasp (Hope van Dyne) - Trans-Clear Wings with Hexagons

Wong - Dark Red Robe, Dark Blue Legs

Pepper Potts - Black Suit, Dark Orange Hair over Shoulder

Dr. Erik Selvig

Dr. Helen Cho

Nick Fury - Gray Sweater and Black Trench Coat, No Shirt Tail

SHIELD Agent - Female, Tactical Vest, Black Goggles, Medium Brown Head

SHIELD Agent - Male, Tactical Vest, Black Goggles, Reddish Brown Head

Alexander Pierce

Chitauri - Dark Bluish Gray x4

Loki - Pearl Dark Gray Suit, Cloth Cape

Ultron MK1 - Dark Blue Head

Kevin Feige

This could be number one. We know. In many ways, it’s the ultimate Marvel LEGO set. It’s certainly the ultimate MCU LEGO set. The Avengers Tower. The hub of the MCU for the better part of two phases. Some of the most memorable characters and moments orbit around the Avengers Tower. And LEGO nailed it.

Let’s get the gripes out of the way. First, minifigures. The lineup is awesome. The first appearance of this Vision minifig is a highlight. We get a great Hawkeye. Wasp. And the two Captain Americas are a lot of fun. Not sure we needed four Tony Starks, but we get it. And the Black Sabbath Tony Stark is elite, no doubt. But Helen Cho? Come on. Give us Pietro Maximoff. Kevin Feige? Okay. But Stan Lee would have been even better. Alexander Pearce? Wong? Two SHIELD agents? There’s a lot of wasted potential here. But that aside, the lineup is awesome.

And the building itself is a towering achievement (no pun intended). Its lines and shape. The A. The colours. The inside is good, but a little sparse. A little bland. It feels like tight quarters for the spaces and moments it’s trying to recreate — and they’re tough to get in and interact with. This build is all about the outside. It’s about the Battle of New York. Hawkeye flying backwards off the building. Black Widow on the roof trying to close the portal. Thor and Hulk fighting the Chitauri Leviathan. Iron Man confronting Loki. You can do it all. And the Venus Fry Cook has. Again, this is THE MCU Lego set.

1. DAILY BUGLE #76178

The LEGO Daily Bugle and a full roster of Spider-Man minfigures.
Image: LEGO. From Daily Bugle

Minifigures:

Spider-Man - Printed Blue Arms, Red Boots

Peter Parker - Red Jacket

Spider-Man (Miles Morales) - Dark Red Hood, Black Lower Legs

Ghost-Spider / Spider-Gwen (Gwen Stacy) - Black Legs, White Basic Smooth Hood, White Hands

Spider-Ham

Firestar

Blade

Daredevil

The Punisher

Black Cat

Sandman - Green Outfit, Tan Sand Form with Swirling Base

Venom - Teeth Parted, 4 Back Appendages Medium

Carnage - 2 Long and 2 Short Appendages

Mysterio - Light Bluish Gray Head, Satin Trans-Light Blue Helmet, Double Hole Cape

Dr. Octopus (Otto Octavius) / Doc Ock - Dark Green Suit, Mechanical Arms with Bars

Green Goblin - Bright Green Skin, Dark Purple Outfit, Small Yellow Eyes, Printed Legs

Robbie Robertson

Ron Barney

Ben Urich

Bernie the Cab Driver

Amber Grant

Betty Brant

Aunt May - Light Bluish

Gwen Stacey

J. Jonah Jameson - Vest with Striped Tie, Swept Back Hair

The Daily Bugle gets the slight edge over the Avengers Tower for two reasons. One — it came out first. And with that release, there was just a bit of extra excitement around this build. It soaked in the first rays of the Venus Fry Cook’s joy at getting to play with a massive Marvel Super Hero set of this scale, with dozens of awesome minifigs. But the Venus Fry Cook tries not to let that kind of thing affect his ratings. It’s more about this second reason. Something about it just feels more… superhero. More comic book. More enchanting. It lights up the inner child and makes you feel like a kid again. It’s an intangible spark of magic — and that’s what makes it the best Marvel set LEGO has ever released.

Oh, and then there’s the minifigures. Guys. The freaking minifigure lineup is the greatest minifif lineup of all time. The Venus Fry Cook already listed them above, so there’s no reason to rehash them here. But look at that Spider-verse representation. Look at those villains! Oh, and let’s throw in the first-ever Punisher, Blade, Black Cat, and Daredevil minifigures. Even the side characters are fun because of how they fill out the world and story of the Daily Bugle. The interior is a revelation. It completely feels like the lobby and offices of the Daily Bugle staff. The design makes each floor (except the first) easy to access and interact with. The rooftop is awesome. The second-floor back balcony. The fire escape. The Daily Bugle sign. This may be the only LEGO set the Venus Fry cook actually “played with” after building it. If you’re a fan of Marvel, Spider-Man, LEGO, or all three — this set has everything you could ever ask for and then some. It’s the greatest Marvel LEGO set of all time.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

The New Guardians' Ship #76255  — This is a great ship, unique build, and decent minifig lineup, but for the VFC, it’s just not the ship he associates most with the Guardians.

Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle #76057 — Before the Daily Bugle, there was the bridge. The biggest Spider-Man set with the best minifigure roster at the time. And for the most dedicated fans, you could buy two and make a full bridge…

Thor vs. Hulk: Arena Clash #76088 — Unique minifigs in a decent set from a great movie.

Avengers Compound Battle #76131 — If you’re looking for the best Avengers compound build, this is a contender for sure.

Rise of the Domo #76156 — An underrated set because Eternals wasn’t as successful. But this ship is completely awesome and singular, with a large minifig roster. A fun build for sure.

VFC Biases

  1. Buildings. Shocker. The Venus Fry Cook definitely favors the buildings.

  2. Vehicles. After buildings, the VFC loves vehicles of all kinds.

  3. Scenes… not so much. The builds just never capture the scene.

  4. Minifigs. A lot of these entries come down to the minifigure roster. Minifigs are huge. Well, they’re small… but you know what we mean…

Disclaimers

  1. These lists are not the “best” — they are the Venus Fry Cook’s favorites.
